Lella Heins was invited to join the Actors Studio Playwrights /Directors Unit in 1988.  Her plays have been produced in New York, Italy and Switzerland.  Her play "The Theory of Color" won the New York Jumpstart series and she was awarded a writing fellowship by the Sacatar Foundation, an American foundation based in Bahia, Brazil.  "Oriundina," a musical play she developed there, was awarded a grant by the Lower Manhattan Culture Council.  She is now based in her native Milan, where she continues to write and direct while also coaching actors in the great Actors Studio techniques she studied.
