Founded in 1976, the American Renaissance Theater Company (ARTC) is a multigenerational collective dedicated to developing and producing new plays that reflect the complexity and diversity of contemporary life. We advance the craft of playwriting and acting by championing a wide range of voices, styles, and cultural perspectives, and by fostering an inclusive space where emerging and established artists can take creative risks.
Our work explores universal yet urgent themes, such as addiction, technology, relationships, violence, mental health, healthcare, and aging, through conflict-driven storytelling and fully realized characters. By engaging audiences with these varied and resonant narratives, we aim to evoke empathy, deepen understanding of our past and present, and contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate world.
We support artists year-round through weekly new-writing workshops and biannual Equity showcases, providing accessible professional development opportunities for writers, actors, and theatre artists of all ages and backgrounds.
